Showhome Is A Showcase For Community Spirit
Our stunning showhome at Wellington Place in Market Harborough has become a meeting place for local residents, as part of a project to build thriving communities within new housing developments.
The recent showhome event was part of an ongoing scheme involving the Rural Community Council and Harborough District Council. The Community Development Programme is paid for through the Shared Prosperity Fund.*
Sales Manager at William Davis Homes, Charlotte North, said she was pleased the showhome gave residents somewhere warm and dry to meet.
“Wellington Place is a growing community and, as a responsible developer, we are very pleased to support this community development programme,” said Charlotte.
“It was great to not only open our showhome as a place for residents to meet but to also host the programme’s coffee van in our car park.”
Designed with the community in mind, Wellington Place has a range of amenities and green spaces to help foster a sense of belonging and well-being. A series of community events are being held for residents to meet and discuss ways to enhance the area.
Jhanvi Shukla from the Rural Community Council commented: “We are currently working in partnership with Harborough District Council on a Community Development Project funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, to deliver a programme of community engagement and asset-based community development across Harborough District. This involves working alongside residents on new housing developments and a range of partners.
“We are extremely grateful to William Davis Homes for opening up their showhome to support some of our community engagement events, alongside the RCC Barista Style Coffee Van in the William Davis car park. It is a great place for people to meet and talk about ways to develop a strong and healthy community at Wellington Place.
“We have previously held engagement events by meeting at the public benches on the development, so it is wonderful to gather inside, particularly as we enter the winter months, in the impressive surroundings of the showhome. We look forward to holding more events in the future.”
Among the residents who met in the showhome was Linda Hallam Bailey. “We’re hoping to set up a residents group and events like this are an important step to help us,” said Linda.
Harborough District Council is actively supporting efforts to improve and enhance the local community, as part of the Harborough Community Development project.
A spokesperson from Harborough District Council said: “The district council is delighted to see community events such as these taking place as they are so important, particularly for new developments, in bringing residents together and enabling stronger communities.
“The council’s new Community Development Team – recently recruited, – will be working closely with the RCC, William Davis, residents, and others , to ensure that there are as many opportunities like this as possible.”
Further meetings are planned for residents, including one at Foxton Village Hall on 17th October (6pm) to discuss setting up a residents group for Wellington Place.
